Facilities and Services

Multimedia Services. Materials like CD-ROM and equipment for instructional use are available at the Learning and Information Center (LIC).


Circulation Services. Books are processed at the Circulation Counter. Request to borrow and renew items are placed at the counter for first come and first serve basis. Information about books not in their proper location on the shelves is made through to the Circulation Librarian.


Resource Sharing. The library is a member of the Davao Private Schools Librarians’ Association (DPSLA), Academic Libraries Information Network in Mindanao (ALINET) and Davao Colleges and Universities Network (DACUN) which allows UMTC students and faculty to research in member libraries. Please see the Chief Librarian for more details.


Filipiniana Collection. Books about the Philippines and its people are kept in the Filipiniana Section.


Library Orientation and Instruction. With some advance notice, library tours or library instruction can be made. Orientation for freshmen and transferees and new faculty are usually held every Term or Semester.


Journals, Magazines and Newspapers. Recent and back issues of local and foreign periodicals can be found at the Periodical Section. E-Journals (ProQuest 5000sc) are also available at the section.


Vertical File Materials. These are supplementary materials: clippings, pamphlets, leaflets & etc.


Reprographic Services. Photocopying machines are available in each floor of the library.


Reference and Information Service. Librarians provide assistance in identifying and locating materials needed for information or research needs.


Reserved Materials. These are supplementary reading materials recommended by the faculty of heavily used titles of books. These are available in the circulation section and shelved at the reserved counter.


Theses and Dissertations. These materials are placed at the Periodicals counter for the Undergraduate and Graduate Studies Area for the Graduate. The collection is for inside use only and photocopying is strictly prohibited.


Internet Services. Internet service is available for students at the 1st floor, GET Building. Please feel free to approach the In-charge for assistance.


Identification Card

The current official college ID is needed for entrance and in all library transactions. The ID is non-transferable.


Borrowing Procedure

Students, faculty and staff must provide 1”x1” colored and recent picture to be attached to their borrower’s card before they can borrow library materials. To borrow a book, bring the book and the current official school ID to the appropriate counter. Materials are inspected by the in-charge before loaning and during the return of the said materials. The due date will be stamped on the date due slip and the borrower will present the book to the Student Training Assistant (STA) on duty at the control area.


Borrowing Priviledges and Regulations

Circulation Books - Bonafide students are allowed to borrow a maximum of two (2) books at a time renewable for three days.


Reserved books -


  • Students can borrow one book at a time for one hour if there is no prior request.
  • Reserve books can be borrowed for overnight use provided that it has multiple copies.
  • Filipiniana books with duplicate copies may be checked-out.
  • Reference books, Periodicals, Theses, Documents, Information file do not circulate and these collections are for inside use only.
  • A week before the final examinations, all books will be for inside use only. The day before the first to third examinations, all books must be returned for library use.
  • The borrower is responsible for books he or she checks-out.
  • MATERIALS WILL NOT BE CHECKED-OUT TO THOSE WHO HAVE FINES OR OVERDUE BOOKS.

Renewals

Renewal of books can be made only when the book is due for check-in as indicated in the date due card.


Returning Materials

Return all loans to the appropriate counter. Please ensure the book is properly discharged before leaving the counter.


Fines

  • Circulation/Filipiniana Books Overdue
  • P5.00/hour, excluding Sundays and holidays
  • All fines should be paid at the Cashier’s Office
  • Receipts should be presented to the Circulation Librarian

Lost Books

  • Lost books must be reported at once. The fine of an overdue book shall stop at the time the book is reported lost.
  • A replacement copy of the same title, author and edition is due for any lost book.
  • If a replacement copy is not available; assessment shall be according to the current price of the book plus the standard processing fee of P30.00.
  • Cash payment is made directly to the Cashier’s Office.

Mutilated/Damaged Materials

Materials with missing or mutilated pages should be reported once. Mutilated or damaged materials will cost the borrower a binding fee of P20.00. for those books judged fit for rebinding , or a copying fee for certain missing pages, or the replacement value for those too damaged for repair (see cost under lost books).


Lost and Found

Inquiries about lost articles may be made at the Office of the Chief Librarian.


Library Clearance

At the end of each term and summer, clearance slips will be signed provided that all accountabilities have been settled.


Control Area

Students, faculty, staff, administrators and visitors are users of the library. They may avail all the library services provided they adhere to the following guidelines:


Library users should:


  • present their validated school I.D;
  • follow the direction at the entrance/exit alley to avoid congestion in the flow of the traffic in the control area;
  • register by logging their names in the record book available at the control checker’s desk. NO ID, NO ENTRY;
  • wear their uniforms at all times;
  • present the books borrowed for home study or for photocopying outside the library for checking by the Student Training Assistant (STA) on duty at the control areas of the library.

Miscellaneous

Tables and chairs should not be misused or moved to new positions.


Anything which interferes with the proper use and management of the library is not permitted. Examples include: food, drinks, bottles of ink, wet umbrellas, and games of any form, audio and video players, laptops, and typewriters. Mobile phones should be switched off or in silent mode upon entering the library.


The library is a place where users pursue their studies and research in an atmosphere free from unnecessary disturbance. To this end, any loud talking, misuse of library facilities or behavior considered by the librarian to be unseemly is not permitted. The librarians and support staff shall have the authority to confiscate the identification cards of library users who have ignored verbal warning from the library staff for the second time. Students caught making noise or eating inside the library for three times will be referred to the office of the Chief Librarian, office of the Student Affairs and/or office of the Counseling and Development for disciplinary action.
