Internet Laboratory (see Gallery Facilities)

Overview

The Internet Laboratory is part of the Learning and Information Center (LIC) of UM Tagum College. It addresses the challenge of enabling the full internet access for more than seven thousand (7000) students. This requires an easier, cheaper, faster and more energy-efficient access in order to meet the user's preferred way of internet use. The Internet Laboratory constantly innovates internet services to provide totally advanced internet experiences. The Internet Laboratory is open to all students, faculty, and administration of UM Tagum College.

Specific Objective

To enable arbitrary interconnections and configurations of routing, switching and host components for the internet. To that end, Internet Laboratory features three (3) WiFi routers and switches, and a variety of other networking gear all housed under one roof to cater the needs of the administration, faculty and students for internet access. The scope and scale of these components will continue to grow over time to reflect technology trends and enable increasingly complex configurations.

Operational Processes

Three (3) important servers are installed to facilitate the Internet connections. The first server is for the Internet Laboratory, the second is for the PROQUEST and the third server is for the WiFi. All servers are designed to monitor the internet activity and are configured to block sites that are not related to educational purposes.

There are thirty-six (44) computers available in the Internet Laboratory for students use, four (4) computers for faculty, one (1) for Student Training Assistant (STA) for monitoring, and two (2) available printers for research printing.
